La Miniatura
A study of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Millard House, from textile-block construction to the building assembly.
Photography, drawing and digital reconstruction of La Miniatura in Pasadena.
The study examines the relationship between textile-block geometry, wall construction and interior light. Component analysis develops into an exploded building model and a cinematic assembly sequence. Frank Lloyd Wright is the original architect; the work presented here is precedent analysis and representation.

Textile-block detail
Close photographs record surface relief, joints and shadows. Digital reconstruction isolates the textile block’s geometry, while drawings locate the component within elevations, interiors and the site.
The hybrid image combines a photograph with analytical linework to describe material variation and repeated geometry.
Construction sequence
Developed in Summer 2022 Cinematic Constructs, the storyboard follows formwork, casting and block assembly, then studies window details and interior light.
The exploded model separates walls, floors, glazing and roof components. These drawings connect component construction to the organization of the house and its relationship with the surrounding terrain.
An analytical model separates the roof, textile-block walls, floor plates, glazing and stairs. Original architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Precedent study, photography and representation by Siyue You. Original architecture: Frank Lloyd Wright. The 2022 cinematic development was undertaken in Farzam Yazdanseta’s ARCH-581A-01 Cinematic Constructs course at Pratt Institute.
